Although we took our time to get into the game, once we took control there really was only one side ever going to win the game. Had Gordon Banks not been in goal for the Marriott it could easily have been 4 or 5 one. Chris looked comfortable in goal doing his understudy duty admirably. Phil held things together well at the back, and up front we carved out some good chances and worked well together. All bodes well to take on the pre-season favorites and Div 1 title holders next week.

From the other games the winners were as expected with UBS hammering Maples and RCC having no problems against E&Y. Paramount together with their girl saw off the Dog/Brick/Brew/Out/Whore House. Tonight Coconut Joes should win easily against reportedly the league's whipping boys (no not us) KPMG.

It was a late 10 o'clock start on the opening day for the new look Atlantic Star side adorning their red and white striped shirts and blue shorts. Their opponents Marriott International were all raring to go in their first ever indoor match. Due to the absence of new signing James Murray in goal, Chris Coen stepped up as the volunteer to wear the gloves. At the back Phil Griffiths made his long awaited competitive debut after missing all the previous season through injury. And up front was the record signing Ben Marler, stolen away from from under the noses of Burger King for the price of a Double Whopper.

Marriott started very brightly, lots of enthusiasm going into their first game and they made the most of a stuttering start by Atlantic Star, taking the lead with a well struck shot although some confusion allowed the shot to come through a mass of bodies and past the blind sighted Coen.

An early setback for Mickey Coyne meant that Pistol Pete had to come in at the back in a like for like substitution

The Stars started to get more into the game and Georgy Jacks was the first person to really test the Marriott keeper with a well struck shot which the keeper did well to not only save but keep hold of. This was just the start of an excellent night from the goalkeeper as he also denied Marler and Dickens with some great stops.

Finally the pressure from Atlantic Star told, as Dickens fed a great ball out left to Marler who showed his worth with a thundering left footed drive into the top corner. Suddenly it was very quiet from the large contingent brought from the Marriott Hotel to cheer on their side.

Atlantic Star took total control second half. Griffiths was controlling the rearguard and with strong performances from those around him, Heffernan, Jacks, Coyne, Carlowe and a late appearance from Leach, keeper Coen had a comfortable time during the second period.

At the other end the Marriott keeper continued to thwart the Star strikers. Doherty had an excellent shot saved down to the keeper's right. In the end it was down to the player of the season from the summer campaign to give Atlantic Star their deserved three points. A pass from Marler was struck first time by Glasgow in off the upright to leave the Marriott keeper helpless. While it might have been harsh on him it was fair reward after a good opening showing from the boys. And so on to week two when they hope get a good winning streak going as they take on the other new side Paramount All Stars.
